Published on 13/08/2024
Tarif 590 is compulsory for all therapists in Switzerland. But what is it exactly? How does it work? And what is the current legislation? This practical guide will answer all your questions about billing with Tarif 590.
Who has to use Tarif 590 in Switzerland?
All therapists! Whether you’re a naturopath, a natural medicine practitioner, a complementary therapist or an osteopath, you’ve got to use Tarif 590 when you’re billing.
What is the purpose of Tarif 590?
The idea behind Tarif 590, as defined by the “Groupe des assureurs de médecine complémentaire” in collaboration with complementary medicine professional organisations, is to:
- Standardise the list of complementary medicine services, so that the procedures performed for your patients are clearly presented. This makes it easier for patients and insurers to read the invoices.
- Make it easier for all health insurers to reimburse faster, thanks to a single billing form.

How is Tarif 590 put together?
Tarif 590 has more than 100 positions, which are used to show exactly what procedures are done on patients. You can download the current list of positions from the SASIS website, or request a copy from your registration centre.
These positions don’t represent RME / ASCA / AGK professions or methods. If you’re not sure which position in Tarif 590 to use, you can ask your registration centre for a table of method equivalents in Tarif 590. If you’re ASCA certified, you can also use our ASCA method to Tarif 590 Correspondence table.
