A Comparis survey published in March\u202f2025 shows that <strong>two\u2011thirds of adults<\/strong> have already interacted with a generative chatbot such as ChatGPT or Gemini. Meanwhile, <strong>98% of Swiss people<\/strong> say they know these tools, according to a study by the University of Zurich conducted at the end of 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Yet, when healthcare is involved, the Swiss population appears reluctant about AI: <strong>our study conducted with Farner and MIS Trend reveals that 74% do not incorporate AI into their healthcare pathway.<\/strong> Among the population that uses AI the least in their care pathway in Switzerland are those aged over 55 and individuals holding a <strong>CFC\/AFP<\/strong> qualification.<\/p>\n<p>In other words, AI is <strong>known<\/strong>, <strong>tested<\/strong>, but still <strong>rarely integrated<\/strong> into everyday health practices.[\/vc_column_text]<header class=\"kd-section-title col-lg-12 text-left  subtitle-below-title  btf-q  vc_custom_1763385683507\" ><h2 class=\"separator_off\" >How do patients use AI in their healthcare pathway?<\/h2><\/header>[vc_column_text css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1763385802574{margin-bottom: 50px !important;}&#8221; el_class=&#8221;btf-a&#8221;]Among the <strong>quarter of the population<\/strong> who take the step and use AI in a health context, here are the main use cases:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Ask a question to a medical chatbot (16%):<\/strong> Typically: symptoms, side\u2011effects of a medication, explanation of a medical term.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Compare or confirm a diagnosis (11%):<\/strong> For example, check if a diagnosis or treatment proposed is \u201cconsistent\u201d with what AI responds.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Decode test results (11%):<\/strong> Understand numerical values or complex jargon present in a lab or imaging report.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Verify a prescription (7%):<\/strong> Ask the AI whether a medication combination is common or if possible interactions are mentioned.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In other words, even patients who are <strong>curious about AI<\/strong> use it mainly as a <strong>complement or informal second opinion<\/strong>, not as a substitute for the practitioner. AI intervenes <strong>before or after the consultation<\/strong>, rarely \u201cinstead\u201d of the doctor.[\/vc_column_text]<header class=\"kd-section-title col-lg-12 text-left  subtitle-below-title    vc_custom_1763385339509\" ><h2 class=\"separator_off\" >What benefits do patients expect from AI in healthcare?<\/h2><\/header>[vc_column_text css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1763385848876{margin-bottom: 50px !important;}&#8221;]Even if the majority don\u2019t use it in healthcare yet, a portion of the population already sees areas where AI could add value, notably:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Cost reduction:<\/strong> For <strong>61%<\/strong> of respondents, AI could reduce health\u2011related costs; younger people in particular are \u201cfully convinced\u201d about this point.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Digitalisation and secure sharing of health data:<\/strong> <strong>One in two<\/strong> believe that automating data flows could avoid redundant tests and save time.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Control or confirmation of a diagnosis:<\/strong> <strong>53%<\/strong> think that AI could limit certain errors and thus reduce unnecessary treatments or procedures.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Faster diagnosis through image or signal analysis:<\/strong> <strong>47%<\/strong> see this as a way to gain efficiency.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Telemedicine and triage of emergencies:<\/strong> For <strong>40%<\/strong> of respondents, better routing to the correct level of care could reduce avoidable consultations or hospitalisations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These elements remain, today, more in the stage of <strong>perceptions and expectations<\/strong> than of widespread use. But they clearly show where Swiss patients <strong>project<\/strong> the role of AI in healthcare.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1763385122193{margin-top: 50px !important;margin-bottom: 50px !important;}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center; font-size: 25px;\">\ud83d\udcb0 <a href=\"https:\/\/info.onedoc.ch\/fr\/blog\/toutes-les-specialites\/investir-plateformes-digitales-ia-reduire-couts-sante\/\">Can AI help reduce healthcare costs in Switzerland? Find out in our article<\/a><\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text]<header class=\"kd-section-title col-lg-12 text-left  subtitle-below-title  btf-q  vc_custom_1763385493009\" ><h2 class=\"separator_off\" >Limited patient trust in AI in healthcare<\/h2><\/header>[vc_column_text css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1763139525590{margin-bottom: 50px !important;}&#8221;]The study figures are clear:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Only 35%<\/strong> of respondents express at least \u201csome\u201d trust in AI to <strong>make a diagnosis<\/strong> or <strong>recommend a treatment<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Only 2%<\/strong> say they are \u201ccompletely confident\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Trust <strong>declines with age<\/strong> and is <strong>lower among women<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Conversely, people who already use <strong>digital health platforms<\/strong> (<a href=\"https:\/\/info.onedoc.ch\/fr\/hub\/prise-de-rdv-en-ligne\/\">online appointment booking<\/a>, electronic patient record, etc.) are <strong>twice as likely to be confident<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The main reasons given for this caution are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The <strong>fear of serious errors<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The <strong>lack of transparency<\/strong> about medical sources<\/li>\n<li><strong>Concerns about personal data protection<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Furthermore, <strong>no AI solution is currently officially recognised in Switzerland for medical diagnosis<\/strong>. Naturally, this reinforces the idea that AI can help, but does not yet serve as a diagnostic tool on the same level as a physician.[\/vc_column_text]<header class=\"kd-section-title col-lg-12 text-left  subtitle-below-title  btf-q  vc_custom_1763385535392\" ><h2 class=\"separator_off\" >Is AI a threat to healthcare professionals?<\/h2><\/header>[vc_column_text css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1763385862841{margin-bottom: 50px !important;}&#8221;]According to our survey, the answer is clear: <strong>no<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>A majority of people surveyed in Switzerland approach the use of AI in healthcare cautiously and continue to <strong>favour human diagnosis<\/strong>. Three out of four Swiss estimate that AI will not put their doctor out of work.<\/p>\n<p>This conviction is even stronger:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>in <strong>German\u2011speaking Switzerland (80%)<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>than in <strong>Romandy (63%)<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>and in <strong>Ticino (64%)<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And as we have seen, the Swiss population <strong>does not trust AI in medical diagnosis<\/strong>. AI is thus perceived more as a <strong>tool for information or confirmation<\/strong>, not as a \u201crobot doctor\u201d replacing your practitioner.<\/p>\n<p>As a healthcare professional, your <strong>role remains central<\/strong> in the care pathway and is fully recognised by your patients. Artificial intelligence should therefore <strong>not be viewed as a threat or competition<\/strong> to you. Indeed, recent advances are rather promising and AI could become a <strong>valuable ally for your daily organisation.<\/strong> For example, it could:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Relieve administrative burden:<\/strong> by helping you with tasks of low medical value but high workload, such as structuring notes or assisting with writing. This type of use in no way replaces your medical expertise: it simply helps <strong>speed up document production<\/strong>, while leaving you in control of final validation.<\/li>\n<li>Enable you to <strong>better prepare and summarise the consultation<\/strong> by helping organise patient information (previous consultation summaries, document sorting, highlighting key elements) and by offering a summary for the patient. In this context, AI becomes a <strong>teaching support<\/strong> and a structuring tool, but you still decide the medical content, diagnosis and treatment.<\/li>\n<li>AI can also be used for <strong>more advanced uses.<\/strong> For example, AI tools are already successfully used in the medical domain to <strong>analyse images or signals<\/strong> to complement your expertise (radiology, dermatology, cardiology, etc.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These uses must always take place within a <strong>clear regulatory framework<\/strong> and comply with Swiss data protection standards. As always, the key lies in a <strong>balanced blend of technological support and human relation<\/strong>: AI helps to save time, better organise information and reduce certain redundancies, while <strong>you remain the clinical and human point of reference<\/strong> for your patients.[\/vc_column_text]<header class=\"kd-section-title col-lg-12 text-left  subtitle-below-title    vc_custom_1763138701150\" ><h2 class=\"separator_off\" >Study methodology<\/h2><\/header>[vc_column_text css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1763139166640{margin-bottom: 50px !important;}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>This survey was conducted online by <strong>OneDoc<\/strong>, <strong>Farner<\/strong> and <strong>MIS Trend<\/strong> in March\u202f2025, with a <strong>representative sample of 1,124 Swiss people aged 18 and over<\/strong> (396 in Romandy, 434 in German\u2011speaking Switzerland, and 294 in Ticino).
